And we’re off. On January 3rd we said our goodbyes to our furry girls and made our way to the Denver airport. We had a carload of luggage, passports, tickets to San Diego and a Semester at Sea voyage ahead of us.
We spent a couple of days in San Diego doing final prep and meeting some old friends (Jen, and Rex, Chip and Kim). Finally on January 5th, it was off to the bus for Mexico to board our home for the next 106 days, the MV World Odyssey. It is our fourth voyage on Semester at Sea so we are old hands at getting ready to hit the seas for an extended period. Each time we board we know we are in for a new experience. This will be our second trip on the “new” ship but our first under the academic guidance of Colorado State University.
We will be posting after each port with some details on where we went and what we did. And you will likely get some of our non-travel observations about country conditions and things we’ve learned. Along the way we will also include some information about shipboard life. We are each attending a few classes on the ship and boys are keeping up on some school work. Luke is also taking some shipboard classes for “real” – for university credit.
We will venture most of the way around the world, from San Diego to Encinitas by bus and then the rest of the way on the ship. It’s a very similar routing to our Spring 2016 voyage and will make stops in Hawaii, Japan, China/Hong Kong, Vietnam, Myanmar, India, Mauritius, South Africa, Ghana and Morocco before disembarking in Amsterdam.
If this has sparked your interest about the program, there is lots of information at www.semesteratsea.org. Our specific voyage has social media postings under #sassp19.
FaceTime when you first boarded was great fun…thank you for connecting !
You’ve stepped out of a crazy weather winter. Several feet of snow in San Diego last week
and our Carlsbad weather was less than glorious. I think we’ll have to devise something more reliable next year – maybe for a month. Cameron is organizing things at the Granite for April. Not sure of many details but I know that Matthew will fly for a day.
I’ll send an e-mail to Loron now…haven’t heard much from him. Hope all is OK…xoxoxo
